Secret Lives with Thomas
As many people would label Thomas (perhaps justly so for many New/CGI Series episodes) as a baby show. This being said, do you keep your Thomas interest a secret?
For me, it's about half and half. My parents, brothers and family know I still like it and obviously have seen my Bachmann layout and my Wooden Railway Series videos. My close friends, however don't know. I don't think I'd ever tell them, not because I'm overly embarrassed, but because I sort of like having a part of my life that's totally my own. Sometimes I feel like I'm living a double life, college student by day, Wiki admin and YouTuber by night!

I am in a similar situation. My family all knows. Everyone I talk to regularly knows I work for a railroad and that I like trains. My Thomas interest is a bit different. My family knows and accepts it, and was fairly open about it in middle school to by close friends. That's only because I grew up with them and they know everything about me basically. My newer friends I've made since then in school and the railroad don't know, mostly because it doesn't come up in conversation. I have not tried hard to hide it. People come over and I don't hide my DVDs on my living room shelf. I guess I would be slightly embarrassed but it wouldn't be a big deal. Not to sound cocky but most people like me and wouldn't give me a hard time over it.
Like Seamus said it's cool having another life. If something is bothering me in the real world I know I always have this one I can retreat into for a few hours.

Glad we're in the same boat Sean! It should be interesting to hear what other people say once more members join up!
Re: Secret Lives with Thomas
I'm glad I'm not the only one who lives like this!! I'm very much the same: my family knows, and I don't bother hiding it from them any more (why should I, when nearly half a dozen Thomas DVDs have come through my letterbox in the 18 months ) and about one friend knows, but that's it!
My friendship group has sort of a friendly feud going through it, and we all use anything to tease each other, so I daren't in case they all find out and never let me forget it.
But as Sean says, I don't mind - if I'm sick of real life, I just come on here and solely live this life for a while

I have told my girlfriend, and closest friends. But other than that, no. My family knows but they're alright with it, just if im not pushing wooden railway across the carpet

My Close family knows that I like Thomas, but my extended family only knows that I like trains.

For me, my family know and are fine, and my one best friend (and his girl friend) know, but that's about it. At school I'm known as the train geek as I seem to know so much about it (for example, I literally know the entire London Underground map) and I'm often labeled as weird. But I really don't care. When I am at home, I'm in Thomas mode! I wouldn't care if i did get judged at school, but I'd prefer it to be kept a nice little secret

My family all know and my five best friends too. All of my friends are obsessed with one thing or another, so my obsession with Thomas, Ponies and Doctor Who has never been an issue. I've even bought Thomas and Pony toys when I'm out with my friends!

One of my best friends is actually a TTTE fan too, and we sometimes trade WR

I wish I had a friend to trade WR with!

I don't know If I would even want to trade most of my merch. At this point it's only value to me is sentimentality for the most part.

He ripped me off once, convincing me that these 2 cargo cars he had were really rare and traded me them for Catherine

I keep it a secret too; my parents know and they tease me in public about it. My sister knows and has told all her friends in an attempt to embarrass me. I was once looking up trains for a project in school, and a bunch of jocks came up to me and started singing the theme song. I can't trust any of my friends, so I don't tell them. I also have to change aisles a lot at stores when looking at TTTE merch to make sure no one sees me. I also have to pretend that any TTTE merch I get is for my cousin so that the cashiers don't judge me

Re: Secret Lives with Thomas
Buying Thomas stuff is always weird for me. I'm not old enough to be buying it for my kid, but I'm way too old (apparently) to be buying it for myself! It's always very uncomfortable...
Re: Secret Lives with Thomas
I don't really care. If they ask I'll just tell them it's for my brother.

Re: Secret Lives with Thomas
I always use self-checkout at bigger stores to avoid human contact regardless of what I'm buying. Toys R Us is a bit different because even though I have to go to an actual cashier, they're usually pretty nice and make conversation about the ranges I'm buying from.

Re: Secret Lives with Thomas
I'm friend with the owner of the toy store I go to a lot so no awkwardness there
But the other toy store I go to the staff there are kinda jerks. I remember buying a WR (It was actually for my cousin, I wasn't make it up ) and the cashier was just a total butt. I don't go their very often unless this one employee is working, she's really nice

Re: Secret Lives with Thomas
I only got back into Thomas a little over a year ago after a five year 'dark age.' I haven't directly told anyone about it. However, my family know after my dad read my tweets. I still don't feel comfortable talking about it with them though. I certainly haven't told my friends about it, I wouldn't get a chance even if I wanted too. That's why I love this forum, I can talk to people who understand my love for this series.

@Darth There was once a worker looking at me and asked if I was ok. It's just not right for people to judge you, mostly when you don't know them.

Anything I buy Thomas-related I tend to get online, but I'm hoping that ASDA have self-service come April..!
Re: Secret Lives with Thomas
I do that as well! Otherwise they all wonder why I'm buying Tale of the Brave the day it is releasedDarthShaymin14 wrote: I also have to pretend that any TTTE merch I get is for my cousin so that the cashiers don't judge me

Re: Secret Lives with Thomas
@Model I was asked that once too, and once at toys r us I was looking at WR and this lady was with her kids walking past. She stopped there just to glare at me and give me a dirty look and said "come on kids let's get out of here". :/

Re: Secret Lives with Thomas
I was always very open about being a Thomas fan. More than open, everybody knew, because I always talked about it.
Seeing as my interest has died down to more "normal" levels over the last couple of years, I don't talk about Thomas anywhere near as much, but occasionally I will mention it in conversation and get weird looks.
I let it sink in that I was a Thomas fan all the way through my teenage years, until the looks are really weird, and then I explain about the Wikia and Andrew Brenner...
Then the weird looks vanish and they're awestruck. lol
