I prefer the Reverend, as while he can be technical in the terms of the engines, the romantic viewpoint of a quaint, green little English countryside with little villages and towns is still there. With Christopher, he seems, at times, to be too focused on the engineering terms, taking away a bit of the charm - But, when he is good, he weaves excellent stories. Plus, we get characters such as Wilbert, Sixteen, Pip & Emma, and Ivo Hugh. So, I enjoy both.

Yes, I enjoy, too. The thing with me is, the Reverend has all the classic stories, but Christopher has all the new stories. So I like both best.

How can you choose? Reverend Awdry wrote an excellent series, and Christopher did just as good a job extending it

As a railroader I appreciate Christopher's inclusion of more technical terms, but I also felt it messed up the balance that made the Reverend's stories so great. Wilbert used the right amount of detail without clouding a child's understanding of a story.

really, both writers used the same spirit in their stories; the only true points of comparison in their books are the illustration styles.

I haven't read Christopher's stories in full just yet, but I will withhold detailed opinions on them until I have read them through.
