Totally. He did/is doing a great job with him!

But I feel like he would be some divine spirit, a replacement of Lady even, helping the engines in trouble.

That reminds me of my theory about Percy and the reason he has so many accidents is because he is going back in time to stop others from having accidents, and Percy's ghost engine is one of those Percys which went back in time. Anyways, back to proteus. When I was younger and obsessed with TATMRR I thought of Proteus as the Lady of the Skarloey railway, haha! I was obsessed with TATMRR to all heck.
