Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
Here we can discuss other sentient and semi-sentient locomotives in fiction, such as Chuggington, Ivor the Engine, The Little Red Train, etc.
Re: Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
Well, let's start with a classic: the little engine that could

Re: Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
Honestly, I don't know much about the Little Engine That Could.
Re: Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
Neither do I; but I loved the story as a kid. It's been so long

"I Think I Can, I Think I Can, I Think I Can, I Think I Can, IThink ICan, IThink ICan, IThink ICan, IThink ICan, IThinkICan, IThinkICan, IThinkICan, IThinkICan!"
Does get Very annoying.

It was one of my favorites as a kid, so honestly, for me it does not

Re: Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
I think it's a lot like Edward & Gordon: "I can't do it, I can't do it, I can't do it." "I will do it, I will do it, I will do it!"
Re: Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
It really is. I used to think it was an episode of TTTE that I hadn't seen yet.

Well, Awdry sort of used a similar style. "I can't do it! I can't do it!" "I will do it! I will do it! I will do it!" "I've done it, I've done it, I've done it!" "Oh come along, oh come along, oh come along"... etc.
This was done to imitate the sounds a steam engine makes when starting from a station or climbing a hill. Rather cleaver, if I do say so!
Re: Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
The Little Engine That Could actually predates the RWS by several years by the way.

Re: Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
Kodimarto from Deviantart introduced me to one I've never heard of: "Sammy the Shunter". Very reminiscent of Thomas, if I do say so myself.

As for that Sammy the Shunter, he has a good friend named 'Billy the Bus'. Sound familiar? http://orig08.deviantart.net/7647/f/2013/220/9/e/sammy_meets_billy_the_bus_by_kodimarto-d6h69wu.jpg
There is Ivor, a classic.

Re: Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
Not really a "famous" engine, but perhaps Casey Jr. from the Disney movie Dumbo? That engine looked like he was sentient

I know and like Underground Ernie and Ivor the Engine.
But, Chuggington is the one I don't care for that much.

Re: Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
Same here. I used to like Chuggington because of Leokimvideo, but not anymore.

Chuggington was good a while back, when Thomas was in a bad state, but I'm not a fan of the most recent series of Chuggington.

I've never particularly liked Chuggington..
While they are not locomotives, they are sentient vehicles - Tugs!

Very true. And, if I recall correctly, some Thomas rolling stock (Non-sentient.).

I've created a discussion in the Off-Topic section for Tugs.
There is the Polar Express, though not sentient (To our knowledge!).

Re: Other Fictional Sentient Locomotives
I've seen the movie and read the book; I do not think the Polar Express is sentient. Still excellent though.
