Bits that used to frighten me (us)
This is an interesting one on SiF, so I thought it'd be cool to have it here.
When I was little I watched the Thomas' Snowy Surprise DVD for the 1st time (at night). Then at the part in Jack Frost where James finds Percy, there's a blackout, but the TV is still on. So I'm alone with scary Jack Frost in the dark. To this day, neither of my parents can explain how the TV stayed on in the blackout.

Well, nothing in Thomas ever used to scare me, despite having watched 'nearly' every episode on YouTube when I was younger.

What also creeped me out was the trucks in Dirty Work.

For most people, I think it could've been the Flying Kipper accident, "ghost" Percy, the Dragon, scrapyard scenes, Diesel 10, "Haunted Henry" and more.

From The Diseasel, the close up of Boco's face used to scare me as a kid.

Any scene from the model era where Diesel is angry is enough to scare me for life ...no, really, it's true!

I will never watch "Thomas,Percy and the squeak" ever again.
Also I remember being afraid of the bull in "the tortoise and the hare" Anything on the "spills and chills" dvd scared the scrap out of me when I was little. But I think Scaredy engines scared me more than any other episode not only am i terrified of ghosts im also scared of hallucinations and scary music.

Alicia Botti screaming at the mouse? I found that unpleasant when I watched the episode.
I don't think there were hallucinations in "Scaredy Engines" (were there?) Besides, ghosts aren't real, so what is there to be terrified of?

i'm not sure just the idea of something there that isn't there as for the hallucinations when thomas sees the pieces of scrap they twist and mangle it's really creepy. Alicia botti screaming scared me the first time I saw it and that was only 3-4 years ago!

To be honest, not that much of Thomas scares me. Although, some episodes are pretty dark.

Re: Bits that used to frighten me (us)
There are a few instances in the series that scared me. One would have to be in "Toby's Discovery", when Toby is alone at the mine; right as the line "Suddenly, he heard a strange weeshing sound" is said, the music heightens, and it still gives me the creeps to this day.
Another is pretty much the entire episode of "Haunted Henry", especially when Henry enters the haunted forest the first time. The ambiance created during this scene is terrifyingly creepy. Also, I used to be scared of the grinding and grating noise the Grabber made in "Stepney Gets Lost".

I don't know about you, but Misty Island Rescue still horrifies me.

Is it like how a natural "intruder" like an insect, reptile or rodent (mice/rats, not innocent rodents) can horrify you due to its mere appearance? Or is there something in its content like the "Shake Shake Bridge" and the rest of Misty Island itself? All it was was a massive s-HiT stain on the Thomas franchise.

Honestly, I don't remember anything scaring me in the series. But I think what's irking me thinking about it today is hearing Neville's whistle (Don't ask me why. I haven't a clue why I was scared of that )

For some reason, I was always scared of the "shocked" faces, and I have no idea why. Thankfully, I got over that years ago and can now watch episodes without covering my face in fear.

Nothing scared me in the show until Season 5. "Haunted Henry" and "Duncan Gets Spooked" terrified me. Something about the atmosphere/music scared me witless.

The only two things that still scare me are Haunted Henry and Stepney Gets Lost. Don't ask me why - they just creep the heck out of me.
Re: Bits that used to frighten me (us)
Personally, I never was scared of those episodes outright; and truth be told, I used to know every line of haunted Henry by heart.

Re: Bits that used to frighten me (us)
I think I was scared of the part right before Toby found Bertram in Toby's discovery, because I hadn't seen the episode until a few years ago even though I had it on a DVD, I don't rememebr actually being scared of it though.

Something about the scene when the coat is seen hanging on the tree, scared me silly. I would literally hide behind the couch. Not really sure why, but nothing on Thomas scared me before or after Season 5.

I maybe am a little bit of a scaredy cat. Most of Season 5 scared me, and TATMR had me peeing my pants when I was little.

Re: Bits that used to frighten me (us)
I admired most of the scary episodes for how creepy the visuals were.
But Percy's ghostly trick was waaaay too much for me. I remember on one of my DVD's that the last episode was Percy's Ghostly Trick, and I would jump out of bed and swap out the dvd the moment I heard the foreboding song of the ghost engine. Just too much for little old me.

Come to think of it, have any episodes ever been truly, and outrightly "scary" if you will? Seems that most of the time when scariness is part of the plot, it's always treated lightly and most of the engines have a good laugh at the end.

Re: Bits that used to frighten me (us)
The closest thing I can think of to that is probably Stepney Gets Lost. In addition to the eerie atmosphere, Stepney was indeed in mortal peril. Escape might also count, although that one isn't out-and-out scary.
