Neil Patrick Harris' T&F Obsession discussion
I don't know if anyone has brought it up here, but..
Here we can discuss the 70th Anniversary collab with FunnyOrDie, starring Neil Patrick Harris:

Well a very perculiar discussion there, plus who DOESNT know that Ringo narrated the first 2 seasons. (Probably people that don't have a proper childhood :/) this is a perfect joke about fanboys of TTTE and how just plain stupid they can get. I'm surprised he didn't go on a rant about how Awdry's characters aren't featured enough.

A superb joke about those who get carried away with how much they know about Thomas. What surprised me was how all the kids there payed attention to Ringo, Mark or Duck to figure out the Number eight engine's real name.

Alternate ending:
NPH: well those were easy questions, I bet you didn't know that in the railway series Donald and Douglas were painted blue after joining the railway.
Kids: whats the railway series?
(NPH falls over in the same way as the "you died" clip in legend of Zelda twilight princess)

What I want to know is if Neil really does like Thomas that much

It was a bit impressive that the children knew Duck's real name but then again, they probably watched The Thomas Way or Duck in the Water. What I want to know is if that was scripted for Neil Patrick Harris to do or not. Also, who doesn't know that Ringo Starr narrated Series 1 and 2. I'd like to see a follow up.

My guess would be no. I've heard his kids like it though!Frankthetriviaman wrote:What I want to know is if Neil really does like Thomas that much

I would have been surprised by the Duck thing, but they've been making it clear that Duck's real name is Montegue lately, so it's not so odd. Also most of those little kids wouldn't know about Ringo!
Re: Neil Patrick Harris' T&F Obsession discussion
I think it was a scripted video. I don't think they would show improvisation that involved bad language in front of children.
But I do think NPH may be an actual Thomas fan. He wouldn't do a Thomas video if he had no interest in Thomas, or without pressure from his children.

Re: Neil Patrick Harris' T&F Obsession discussion
He said in the video that he spent hours watching the show with his kids, so I'm assuming he might be a Thomas fan.
And yes, the video was scripted. I seriously doubt that they would have used such profanity in front of kids, even if it was only one swear word that was censored. Harris probably used a less offensive word in front of the kids and it was just censored to make it seem he was swearing.

I'd buy that... it really is a funny video, but I wonder if it was really aimed at the older fans though

I'm honestly not even sure if they were aiming the video at parents. I like to think they aimed it towards the older fans.

This video was perfect for the older Thomas fans. Really funny, too. I got all the answers correct, too. XD

I prefer the term "Tankie" to "Steamie"

I prefer Thomasfan then Tankie. I think Tankie makes the fanbase look bad and is just a take on Bronies.

I guess "Tankie" sounds okay...but maybe Thomasfan would be better...

"Tankie" sounds rather silly to me, but considering the show's main target audience, I guess it sounds decent. Still, I can't quite wrap my head around the idea of someone saying "I'm a tankie and proud of it!". I'd feel much more sane saying "I'm a brony", and I'm not even a fan of MLP.

Thomas fans shouldn't really have a nickname in the first place.
Why not just call them what they are?

Re: Neil Patrick Harris' T&F Obsession discussion
Yeah, I don't get why we need a nickname. Tankie, Steamie and whatever else all sound silly to me.
Re: Neil Patrick Harris' T&F Obsession discussion
I think we need a different name to Thomasfan. Its like saying Doctor Who Fan or One Direction fan. It's a bit boring.
Tankie sounds too immature though. it makes us seem like 9 year olds that talk trains all day.

Steamie makes a bit more sense though. You wouldn't call Gordon or Henry a tankie. Anyways, tankie means Thomas fan not a steam engine.

I've always used 'Trainiac' as the term for us fans.
An excellent video, however.

Funny thing actually; I was in a discussion about what the Thomas fandom should be called a while back; we settled on "Sudrians" actually.

Re: Neil Patrick Harris' T&F Obsession discussion
So I just found this thread while I was scrolling through old threads that hadn't been posted in in a while *coughcoughlatetothepartycough* but I watched this video a few months ago, and personally didn't find it all that funny. The thing that bugged me the most was that he kept saying "Tankies". I have a problem with giving Thomas fans a name, I don't think we should have to label ourselves. Sure, "Trekkies" and "Whovians" work, but personally I feel we should all just call ourselves, simply, "Thomas fans".
Plus "Tankies" sounds just plain stupid in my mind.

Agreed.
I am so glad "tankies" never caught on; I still say Sudrians would be a good one though.

The thing with "Sudrians" though is that we don't live on Sodor, so I don't think we should be called by that name.
But that's just me.
