Best Thomas and Friends Antagonist
This post is for anyone to voice their opinions on who the best antagonist is in the world of Thomas and Friends. Because there are quite a few, this includes all engines/people/vehicles/rolling stock who have played (or would have played) a major or semi-major villainous role in the series, including but not limited to: Diesel 10, Diesel, Iron 'Arry and Bert, S.C.Ruffey, P.T. Boomer, and Sailor John, to name a few.

To me, I think Sailor John's the best antagonist we've had so far, and is the very first HUMAN one too. He's both ruthless and a monster...yet can be quite funny when he wants to be too ("I WANT MY TREASURE" anyone ?).

^^ Sailor John for sure.
For me I would have to say Diesel is my favourite but depending on how he's written. For example, I would say his portrayal in the Duck and the Diesel trilogy is one of my favourite. I think some of the new series portrayals (yes, even the Sharon Miller era) have given him the -potential- for being even more likeable. I stress potentional. They are attempting to portray him as an engine who wants to be really useful just like all the others but is stuck with a reputation of being generally unliked so he goes about it going the wrong way. Misty Island Resuce tried to do this but not so well.

Human (There's really no choice, since we know next-to-nothing about Boomer!) - Sailor John. One of the most detailed and in-depth characters I've seen in the series.
Locomotive - Diesel 10. He, while not having the sly charm of Devious Diesel, pomposity and evil genius-feel (Key word - feel) make him a very interesting character. I'd like to see more of his past.

I'd like to see him call Pinchy Pinchy again.

I'd like to see Pinchy come alive, murder Diesel 10, and take over Sodor.

Re: Best Thomas and Friends Antagonist
Sailor John is a personal favorite of mine because he is unlike any antagonist we've seen thus far. He is quite a diabolical character - even resorting to blowing up STH's office - just to get what he wants, and does not let anyone get in his way. Even after he's caught red-handed, he still maintains his evil persona, which I believe is something the Thomas world could use: a consistent bad guy. Originally, we saw this with Diesel 10, as he stole the show with his devious behavior, but he ended up being reformed. His - as well as the other diesels' - reformation itself was not a bad thing, it was that he kept flip-flopping attitudes, which was something we didn't see with Sailor John. I could easily see him return to the series - possibly broken out of jail - to carry out his plans for revenge.

After seeing Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure, I think Sailor John's the best antagonist of the show. Diesel 10's funny too, though.

Maybe Pinchy could wrench itself off of D10!

S.c.ruffery is rather bland as a character, to be honest. However. Sailor John is definately one of the best and most memorable villains

I'm not saying he's bad, we just didn't get to see him that much.

Re: Best Thomas and Friends Antagonist
Bringing up this thread again, some other good antagonists would be Bulstrode and Bulgy. I love how Bulstrode is, and Bulgy being something of a revolutionist ("Come the revolution...") was a great idea of Awdry's.
Re: Best Thomas and Friends Antagonist
I thought Bulstrode was kind of "meh" actually. He didn't do much; he just sort of sat there, said a few lines and get crushed by freight cars. We didn't even get to revisit him; but I imagine he is still on the beach.

That's what's cool about the magazine stories. Bulstrode actually got several more roles through them.Frankthetriviaman wrote:I thought Bulstrode was kind of "meh" actually. Didn't Bulstrode rust or was destroyed? I thought someone said that somewhere.
